H2W2 (How to where to)
How To, Where To (or H2W2 as it is otherwise known) is a book produced by The Australia Council for the Arts who in turn commisioned the Octapod Association to write, research and design the book and who in turn commissioned myself and Rowena Foong to design (and also do some writing and research). The 180 page book is primarily a guide for young people wishing to start a range of differing projects in the arts and looks at the many different approaches one might take in getting started.
The book also includes case studies of artists from a variety of disciplines in addition to a "where to" directory of arts organisations from different states and disciplines that offer assistance to young and emerging artists. We tried to give the design a serious, yet quirky feel and also a DIY aesthetic while at the same time not making it condescending to its predominantly young and culturally active audience. Folded paper was used throughout to give the publication a "hands on" and textural feel while the recurring motifs of flowers and birds were meant to convey a a blossoming of creativity and a sprightly inquisitive approach to working on a project.
