OPUS STUDENT MAGAZINE

under employment of:
Newcastle University Student Association
year:
1998

My year as co-editor and art director of Opus was abit of a blur - coordinating the Newcastle University Student Publication meant little time to do anything else (including study). The nature of student publications is also that you get no thanks unless printing people's sad love poems or giving away free beer vouchers (and even then....).
We changed the size of the publication from a tabloid to a rough 37cm (not quite) square. We also took allot of time to produce a nice page layout, making the most of what we could do with back on white print and introducing a vitality to what had previously been a quite traditional layout style. Supposedly people want you to be editor since you are voted in. I came to view this less a privilege and more punishment. Though I look back on the year now and am proud of the talented designers and writers we had working for us. The images to the left are various covers designed by myself. They were scanned from the printed issues (printed on newspaper stock) and as a result are quite poor in quality. But I think you get the general idea.
