NEW MEDIA: critical approaches

year:
2003

NEW MEDIA: CRITICAL APPROACHES was a conference held as part of the This Is Not Art Festival which brought together postgraduate students (and others) from different disciplines to discuss and deliver papers on non-traditional forms of publishing (zines, comics, internet publishing etc.).
It is a forum for critical work being done on a wide range of publishing mediums; giving academics, artists, activists and critics an unprecedented opportunity to meet and engage in discussion and debate.

The conference is also designed to be an opportunity for people working critically in these areas to meet, network and form connections across disciplines and institutions.
They needed a small but striking web presence that featured a program and biographies of the speakers. The imagery employed was of a classical nature (actually photos I took in the British Museum) which represented the academic quality of the event but arranged in such a way to convey it's unorthodox approach. The conference has since been rebranded as "Critical Animals" and has become a regular presence at the This Is Not Art festivals in subsequent years.
